The alert came at 03:47. By the time Mara reached the screen, the timeline was already scrolling-log entries, asset tags, timestamps. Nothing should have been able to touch that segment. That was the whole point of the air gap.
"It's not supposed to be possible," Chen said. He was standing behind her, coffee in hand. He hadn't been to bed either.
Mara didn't answer. She was tracing the path backward. The initial vector was clean-too clean. Someone had known exactly where to look.

The breach wasn't noisy. No ransomware, no exfiltration spike. Just access. Persistent, careful access. Whoever had built this had taken their time. They'd studied the network. They'd studied the people.
By dawn, the team had a name. Not a person-a project. Acheron. It had appeared in a handful of threat reports over the years. Never fully attributed. Never fully understood.
"We need to know what they took," Chen said.
"We need to know what they're still taking," Mara said.
The sun came up. The logs kept scrolling. Somewhere, on the other side of the world or the other side of the building, someone was reading the same data. And they weren't in a hurry.
